Takin' Care of Business

All right, so even though Thursday was a holiday here in Hong Kong, Friday was not.  Therefore we had class, but we had to switch classrooms because it's now July.  Behold, the new morning classroom:

I actually like it better because it has more windows, better lighting, not as many seats, and it's not next door to the Chinese Opera Department.  Really the only downside is that the vending machine sells only water bottles, whereas the one in the old building sold a variety of drinks.  I can deal, though.

Anyway, I said in a previous entry that I finished "Bold Fresh," and that now I wanted to find Edogawa Rampo's "Japanese Tales of Mystery & Imagination."  Well, it turns out that book wasn't in the main University Library, but in Chung Chi College's Elizabeth Luce Moore Library, pictured here:

Before that moment, I never even knew this library existed because it's so well-hidden.  However, it's extremely close to my classes and a perfect place to hang out.  I was able to get my book, and I saw Yang Laoshi (even though she didn't see me wave).  While talking with her in the afternoon class, I found out that her hometown is Guilin, which is where we're going for 5 days before the Shanghai trip.  She said that she ought to be home during that time, and that we should come visit here.  I, for one, am game.

OK, so after class I finally did something very important to my stay here in Hong Kong:  I purchased a cell phone and cell phone plan.  The whole "new SIM card" thing didn't really work out, but I did find a phone with a design similar to the one I'm used to.  The phone itself was relatively inexpensive and the plan I got was ridiculously cheap at HK$81 per month.  That's about US$10.40 per month for unlimited texting (or SMS as they call it here) and a whole lot of minutes for phone calls.  I opted for no internet, though I could easily change that anytime I want, upping the monthly cost to HK$110.  However, I see no need for that yet.  Here's the new phone:

Parents, please expect a charge on the VISA card, and I apologize if I'm being expensive over here (though I believe I'm living rather cheaply).
